The stable wanted to ride him closer to the lead but he was slow into stride and was chasing a long way out. He ran on well in the straight but was shaded by the promising Stop The Rock. There's a win in him soon, possibly over 2400m. As he was returning from a freshen, Eye Of The Eagle would have been entitled to tire in the straight but he stuck to his task well. He'll be fitter for it and can pinch a 1400m race soon. Xarpo was later found to have EIPH so can be forgiven for her Caulfield result. AZTEC STATE (2.8-length 5th of 15, Race 9): Beaten favourite in the last race of the day but still did a good job to get as close as he did. Drawing barrier 15 left Aztec State racing back and wide to the home turn before he worked home soundly under 60kg to finish fifth. He can bounce back in the coming weeks.
